As a working mother, the fact that UKFast provides flexible working arrangements, generous maternity leave, and the general culture of the company which promotes work-life balance.
As a woman in tech, I am used to being in the minority in my field - but programming and the tech industry in general has always interested me since school, so the imbalanced male-to-female ratio hasn't deterred me from pursuing it as a career. My experience working as a developer at UKFast has been very positive - I have always had autonomy to do things the best way I know, and when help is needed, I’ve always been able to count on the help and experience of my colleagues.
As a working mother, the fact that UKFast provides flexible working arrangements, generous maternity leave, and the general culture of the company which promotes work-life balance, is very important to me, and is proof that UKFast walks the walk in encouraging women from all backgrounds to enter and most importantly, stay in tech.
The industry as a whole could do more with raising awareness that women don't necessarily have to be from Science/Engineering backgrounds to go into tech - the industry needs a diversity of backgrounds and talents, and that it's possible to make the move into tech through training, apprenticeships and self-learning.
