Our technical engineers are on-site at our data centres 24/7/365 available to provide assistance whenever you need it, day or night. For colocation customers we also provide 30 minutes remote hands per rack, per month as standard.

ISO-certified, tier 3 data centres

We custom built our UK data centres using only enterprise-grade infrastructure. As we fully own and manage our data centres, we have total control: from the ground on which the buildings sit to the environment and conditions within. We have the flexibility and control to dynamically react to your unique requirements.

Power

Redundant power

We know the pain you feel when you experience downtime, that’s why our data centres have access to redundant high-capacity power supplies, scalable for future expansion, to ensure continuous operation.

Every site provides Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and standby diesel generators capable of supporting the site indefinitely in the unlikely event of a failure of grid power. So even if the national grid goes offline, you don’t.

Super powered

With virtualisation increasing server utilisation, it’s vital that you have enough power for your whole infrastructure. We have enough to satisfy even the most power-hungry blade servers, with high density infrastructures in excess of 15kW per rack available.

Cooling

Super cool

We understand how important it is to ensure your servers are cooled sufficiently. We ensure high levels of uptime and hardware longevity, because we use air-cooled DX chillers, in N+1 configuration, for each data hall, and external units that cool the refrigerant and pass through the Computer Room Air Conditioner (CRAC) unit.

To further maximise efficiency, our systems use the latest digital scroll compressor systems.
The power cabling running under the raised flooring is beneath the hot aisles – maximising airflow to the cold aisles as well as increased efficiency and power economy.

Network cabling again runs overhead in the hot aisle to enhance the airflow in the floor void. It’s the perfect environment for your hardware.

Cold aisle containment

All our data centres employ cold aisle containment; sealing each with a solid roof and sliding doors, minimising air loss and increasing efficiency.

Fire suppression

Our systems are designed to minimise any disruption and ensure that any minor problem remains localised.

We’re taking no risks, so multiple areas systems are installed and located throughout. The data centres are equipped with gaseous-based suppression systems using world-class VESDA (Very Early Smoke Detection Apparatus) and alarm systems.

These highly sensitive two-stage smoke detectors are linked to the DCIM system and monitored continually from our network operations centre. In the unlikely event of a fire, we have environmentally friendly, gas-based fire suppression systems that quickly extinguish any fire.

Protecting your hardware and data

We know how critical your data is to your business, so we can lock down access to the building, data floors and individual area. You can access your hardware, whenever you and your nominated staff require, via individually programmed access cards. Our standardised procedures ensure you have 24/7 access to your equipment while we protect it from external threats.

Additional security

Not only do we protect your data from threats, we continuously monitor and control all of our security and fire systems using a number of additional systems. These systems include network connectivity and latency CCTV systems, cage and entry door access controls as well as the physical grounds, temperature, moisture and humidity levels in individual suites and power levels (down to individual power bars within racks).

As the security of your business-critical data and systems is our primary concern, we have a permanently manned security presence at all of our data centres and use multi-layered physical security including a secure perimeter and video surveillance.

Entry to each facility is rigorously controlled. We have strict procedures in place to monitor and control visitor access, both into and within each data centre. Extensive CCTV video camera surveillance is in place across each facility, along with security breach alarms and controlled physical barriers.

Connectivity

Carrier neutral

As a carrier-neutral data centre operator, it’s our responsibility to give you a wide range of connectivity and communications options (including IP Transit, point to point, Ethernet and diverse dark fibre and wavelength). You can connect to your carrier of choice as simply, robust and cost-effectively as possible.

Peering arrangements

We have relationships and arrangements with leading Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers, including BT, Virgin Media Business, IXReach and Metronet UK – as well as peering agreements in place with LINXP, LONAPP, LIPEX and IX Manchester.

Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM)

UKFast, part of ANS, data centres are managed using the DCIM system. This means that we ensure our facilities are maintained in an optimal state of balance between availability, efficiency and capacity, in real-time – creating the perfect environment for performance.

Our form of data centre management extends traditional systems and network management approaches to include the physical and asset-level components. Essentially, it provides a significantly more comprehensive view of all of the resources within the data centre including:

Ultra power efficient data centres

Lower operating costs – We’ve built in multiple layers of redundancy, at every level.

Our data centres achieve a PUE of less than 1.3 at full design load. This means that when the data centre is fully occupied, for every 1.3MW of power input into the data centre, 1MW is delivered to the IT equipment.

As a data centre operator with a low PUE we reduce our running costs with efficient technologies, that use less power. We pass these cost savings on to you.

What is PUE?

Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is the measure of how efficiently a data centre uses its power. PUE represents how much of this power is actually used by the IT equipment, in contrast to power used by cooling, lighting and other additional plants within the data centre.

How is PUE calculated?

PUE = Total facility power divided by IT equipment power

Why is PUE important?

If a data centre is inefficient, and subsequently has a high PUE, the ongoing costs associated with running the facility (relating to cooling, lighting etc.) will also be high. These costs are typically passed on to the customer.

On the other hand, operators with a low PUE, have lower running costs – so can pass their savings on to the customer.
