UKFast design and build thousands of technical solutions every year – for businesses operating in industries from eCommerce through to the Public Sector all looking for new and inventive ways of hosting their IT Solutions. Our Solutions Architects play a huge role in this working out how best to make it happen! The team works closely with the technical and sales teams to make sure the customer gets everything they need.

Based at the UKFast Campus here in Manchester the Solutions Architect team is also responsible for helping to shape the future of technology within UKFast, working with teams from across the business to understand what our customer’s need and how to introduce new services into the business. The role requires a broad technical knowledge based on a sound operational background, with the ability to build relationships with everyone regardless of their technical knowledge and the capacity to appreciate all manner of challenges that come with hosting platforms, considering everything from the hardware to the way the service is billed.

Responsibilities for the Solutions Architect:

  • Analyse and design complex systems and services based around the technical and non-technical requirements outlined by both new and existing customers.
  • Understand the technical needs of a customer and translate these into a UKFast product offering or service.  
  • Analyse technical needs of solutions and provide specifications based on findings from monitoring tools, diagrams and general details provided by customers.
  • Production of accurate bill of materials, diagrams and general supporting information for proposed designs.
  • Attend conference calls and face to face meetings, operating as a link between Sales/Account Management and technology teams within UKFast.
  • Understanding of compliance based requirements including PCI-DSS, ISO etc and ensure selected platforms offer the relevant design to cover needs of security and protection. 
  • Appreciation for licensing for all levels of infrastructure, OS and applications.
  • Ability to demonstrate and present designs to customers both technical and non-technical.
  • Understand when a customer’s requirements fall outside of normal operation and appreciate the changes that are required to create a supportable service.
  • Completion of detailed design documentation upon purchase of products before launch, liaising with the launch and support teams as and when additional information is required.
  • Development and maintenance of both internal and external documentation.
  • Provide support to non-technical teams for queries and input on technical matters.
  • Provide architectural support to project teams for development of new services within the UKFast Product portfolio.

What experience does the Solutions Architect need to have:

  • 5 years of experience in a relevant role such as supporting multi-faceted technical solutions or a technical presales position.
  • Comfortable in a client facing role
  • Passionate about technology and continually developing your knowledge base.
  • In depth knowledge of virtualisation, network devices, Windows and Linux is a necessity.
  • Relevant industry qualifications are desirable, such as VCP/Redhat/RHCA/LPIC/CCNA/MCSE
