Working alongside our existing Network team, we are looking for an engineer with a strong attention to detail, high standards and a can-do attitude. Network Engineers primarily have a support focus, handling both client support tickets and calls, whilst providing internal teams with support on client and internal system tasks. Network Engineers are responsible for continued network monitoring through alerting systems and daily checks. They get involved in projects on a rota bases, projects include solo projects to manage and complete and providing project support to Senior Network Engineers and Network Architects on their projects.

What will my responsibilities be?

  • Provide full network support for clients during the network support hours via both the phone system and PSS ticket
  • Provide internal teams with a platform for network support, including both client related tasks and internal system tasks
  • Perform daily checks on core network infrastructure, highlighting any issues to a Network Team Leader and taking relevant action to correct issues
  • Perform continued network monitoring via internal systems including NOC screens, LibreNMS and Grafana, taking action on any issues or escalating to Senior Network Engineer or Network Team Leader.
  • Head up smaller projects which contribute to continued network development or provide network support for other team projects on a rota bases
  • Provide additional support on Senior Network Engineer or Network Architect’s ongoing projects on a rota bases

 

Skills and qualities:

 

  • Understanding on layer 3 technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS and ISIS
  • Good competence in layer 2 fundamentals, such as STP, port types, switch configuration standards and layer 2 security
  • Knowledge on DCI technologies such as VXLAN and OTV
  • Good competence in security appliances such as Cisco ASA firewalls and Cisco Firepower
  • Good competence in VPN technologies and their use cases
  • Working knowledge or greater in device hardware and licensing requirements
  • Willingness and proactive approach to getting involved with projects being ran by Senior Network Engineers or Network Architects
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to identify priority tasks in line with business requirements
  • Willingness to invest time in external qualifications such as a CCNA or Arista ACE
  • Proactive approach to issues which present themselves
