The opportunity…

2020 was a hugely transformational year for our business with a large investment from the leading mid-market private equity firm Inflexion. Our hard work, dedication, and grit during such a turbulent year have propelled us into 2021 with a highly confident outlook for a successful year ahead.

Many exciting projects are either already underway or soon will be. Integral to our plans is delivering an upgrade to the UKFast core network and growing our network team to help support and maintain this platform, alongside plans to build a true hybrid cloud platform.

As a result, we currently have a truly exciting opportunity for an experienced Network Engineer to join an expanding and devolving network team. This role will largely be a support focused role with the opportunity to be involved in projects on a rotational basis.

In addition to the above you will be working closely with your colleagues and team leader in the Network Team, whilst collaborating with other departments such as the data centre, account management and launch teams to increase exposure to various operational elements of the business.

As part of working on the Network Team you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, reporting into the Network Support Team Leader your core responsibilities will include:

  • Provide network support for clients during network support hours via both the phone and ticketing systems.
  • The Network Team currently covers 8:00am-6:00pm in shifts, but with potential expansion to 7:00am-7:00pm coming soon.
  • Continuously providing excellent customer service by meeting and exceeding SLA and NPS targets.
  • Act as an escalation point and mentor for junior engineers within the team.
  • Being involved in a variety of projects on a rotational basis.
  • Provide support for interdepartmental requests using our task system.
  • On a rotational basis, performing daily checks for core network infrastructure, highlighting any issues to a Network Team Leader and taking relevant action to correct issues
  • Perform continued network monitoring via internal systems including NOC screens, LibreNMS and Grafana, acting on any issues or escalating if required.

 What you will bring:

  • 2-4 years experience working as part of a Network Team.
  • 2-4 years experience on a Network Support desk (or equivalent)
  • A Passion for providing outstanding customer support via phone call and ticketing systems
  • Willingness to build strong customer relationships
  • Experience with project leadership, owning projects from conception to delivery is desired
  • Quality time management and organisation skills are required to meet deadlines and effectively plan projects 
  • A highly motivated and hardworking attitude
  • Experience with operating with change control procedures is desired
  • Strong competence in layer 2 fundamentals, such as STP, port types, switch configuration standards and layer 2 security
  • Wide experience troubleshooting connectivity issues 
  • Great understanding on network security appliances use cases and implementation such as Cisco ASA firewalls and Cisco Firepower
  • An understanding of security appliances such as FortiGate, Palo alto or WatchGuard is desired but not essential
  • In depth knowledge on VPN types and use cases 
  • Great understanding of Internet transit and Internet peering
  • Having a network qualification such as CCNA or equivalent is a big advantage
  • Fantastic communication skills are required to help build relationships with customers
  • Confidence and desire with outbound calls to resolve issues as soon as possible
  • A team player attitude with the willingness to help others
  • Great competence in VPN technologies and their use case
  • Great competence configuring and managing Site to Site and Anyconnect VPNs
  • Great time management skills, with the ability to identify priority tasks in line with business requirements
  • Proactive approach to issues which present themselves
  • Good understanding of layer 3 technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS and ISIS
  • Good Knowledge on DCI technologies such as VXLAN and OTV is desired.
  • A strong sense of fun.
