We currently have an exciting opportunity for 20 of the next tech superstars to join our team and apprenticeship program, responsible for ensuring the highest standard of support and service delivery to our customers.
Alongside your work as a UKFast engineer you will also be part of the UKFast apprenticeship program. This will also provide you with a full 18-month training and development programme starting with the Level 3 IT Apprenticeship. You will work and train with the latest technology and techniques to deliver hosting solutions and manage servers along with working on some of the biggest 3rd party products in the industry. You will also complete vendor recognised qualifications alongside your IT Apprenticeship and achieve an accredited City & Guilds Level 3 Infrastructure Technician qualification at pass, merit, or distinction level. Over the last 4 years 100% of our apprentices have passed their apprenticeship with 79% achieving a distinction rate (compared to 29% nationally). At UKFast we will give you the right support to reach your full potential. You will also be given the opportunity to complete vendor exams on top of the apprenticeship including Linux, Azure and AWS exams along with the industry recognised ITIL service desk management qualification.
The apprenticeship program ensures you have the ability to work and support all customers of UKFast. You will join a core team that are the first point of contact for all inbound requests into support and are responsible for the initial triaging of problems and incidents. The team is fast paced and works to provide outstanding customer service and support to ensure all issues are resolved timely.
As part of this role, you will be working in a fast-paced environment, providing the highest quality technical support to the UKFast customer base. With quality of work, attention to detail and reliability being part of the core beliefs and foundations of the team, each of the above is essential to meet the demands of this ever-changing department. UKFast and ANS have joined forces to create the biggest tech service group in the UK and the UK’s leading apprenticeship Academy, which will bring cross development opportunities across both UKFast and ANS.
Across your time on the program, you will have the opportunity to work amongst multiple teams. We have built a bespoke rotation that will allow you to learn the basics of monitoring, backups, and remote desktops on our development pods. You will then work around multiple teams across the 18 months, including, security, UKFast infrastructure, public cloud, and the data centre. You will gain experience in a wide variety of technologies whilst you find your passion within the industry.
What you will bring
Excellent communication skills with an ability to build strong relationships with customers and teammates.
A level-headed approach when working under pressure.
Ability to produce excellent quality documentation.
A passion for technology including cloud services, information security technology and infrastructure.
Great attention to detail.
Experience using administrative features of Windows or Linux operating systems
Interest in setting up and managing networks.
Interest in programming languages or web technologies, general system administration
5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths, English, and ICT (Information Communications Technician).
The ability to be taken through the United Kingdom Security Vetting with the UK Government to work within our public sector platforms.
Minimum of 5 years as a UK resident for government clearance.
What you will do
You will be employed over the course of your training program with opportunities to apply for permanent positions across your time on the program.
You will have opportunity to work around multiple teams including networking, monitoring, security, infrastructure, AWS/Azure, and the data centre.
Be the point of contact for all Service Desk requests whether from phone call, email, monitoring alert or ticket.
Be responsible for system monitoring - live alerts, investigation, and taking the necessary actions to acknowledge and deal with these alerts, following through to resolution.
Be responsible for supporting with escalated hardware monitoring alerts and completing upgrades to servers, general maintenance of hardware and stock levels within the UKFast data centre network.
Be responsible for monitoring security alerts, troubleshooting and where needed escalating these issues to relevant team members.
Be responsible for the daily checks across the UKFast infrastructure including our eCloud VPC, firewall hosts, and VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) networks product. You will also be responsible for triaging infrastructure tickets and escalating.
Support the security team with vulnerability scans, managing a suite of our security products, general security monitoring for clients.
Supporting triage of our public cloud related tickets including AWS/Azure based platforms whilst following escalation procedures within this area of the business.
Handle the general triage of tickets and escalation where required for various teams (whilst considering timely response within the SLA (Service Level Agreement).
Escalate tickets to Technical Support in a timely and effective manner - including all relevant information that will assist with the handover.
Support the handover process to/from the Out-Of-Hours technical support team so that support can continue to be provided 24/7.
Communicate to customers in the event of Service Affecting Changes and Issues
Ensure all customer reporting is delivered on time.

Competitive Apprenticeship salary
37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday
After 12 Months the successful candidate will be called upon to complete weekend shifts.
