What’s the role all about?

As a Senior Linux Engineer at UKFast you will have the opportunity to work with some of the internet’s most exciting businesses on a day to day basis. The role will be focussed on supporting UKFasts largest clients through troubleshooting, monitoring and enhancing their solutions. The supported services include Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE), virtualisation (VMWare, Hyper-V, Openstack), along with a raft of core internet technologies (web servers, load balancers, WAFs, database servers etc).

What will my responsibilities be?

  • Delivering excellent customer service to UKFast’s largest clients
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex customer issues within the defined SLAs
  • Providing analysis and advice to clients regarding improving their solutions
  • Support of internal infrastructure
  • Escalation point for more junior teams

What skills do I need to have?

Essential:

  • Core web technologies (Apache, nginx, haproxy, redis)
  • Some experience of databases (MySQL, Galera, Postgres)
  • A thorough understanding of DNS
  • A good understanding of networking
  • The ability to work well and act under pressure
  • The ability to work well within a team and share knowledge

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (Zabbix, Grafana, telegraf, influxdb)
  • Knowledge of ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
  • Knowledge of load balancing
  • Knowledge of high availability (Pacemaker, Red Hat Cluster Suite)
  • Knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understand of Enterprise Storage Solutions (fibre, iscsi)

What's the earning potential?

We offer a salary of up to 50k depending on experience

What are my working hours?

Core working hours are Monday - Friday 9am - 5.30pm
