The Opportunity

2020 was a transformational year for our business with a large investment from the leading mid-market private equity firm Inflexion. There are many exciting projects underway at UKFast. Integral to our plans is delivering a substantial upgrade to the UKFast core network. Growing our team of Data Centre Engineers to build, support and maintain this platform is paramount to our success.

As a result, we currently have a truly exciting opportunity for a hands-on hardware enthusiast to join us as a Data Centre Engineer. Based at our purpose-built Data Centre in Manchester you will become part of our tech-obsessed team, working in the heart of our business in what we like to call our engine room! Everything that our customers love about us starts with our data centres and that’s why our engineers are crucial to the success of our business.

You will be tech-obsessed with outstanding attention to detail and high standards to match, alongside a positive, proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be motivated and incredibly driven to help us build and continually improve solutions for our customers.

As a Data Centre Engineer at UKFast, no two days will ever be the same. Your role will be action packed, and you’ll be on your feet a great deal more than behind a desk! Your job will mean you build an in-depth understanding of how things work ‘under the hood’ - whether it’s accepting a delivery and processing some brand new hardware, or building, racking and cabling a bespoke customer solution.  You will always be at the forefront of everything we do and your role is essential to our success.

You will work closely with a diverse group of colleagues such as our Windows, Linux, and Network Support teams. So not only will you gain exposure to a range of technologies, but you will also be exposed to the various operational elements of our business.

What you will do

  • Build, maintain and support hardware solutions
  • Liaise with other technical departments to support customer solutions
  • Ensure our multiple data centre facilities are operational 24/7
  • Maintain stock and manage deliveries
  • Monitor ticket and task queues, ensuring we hit company SLAs, delivering exemplary customer service
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties and maintain the high standards of the data centres

  • A full, clean, UK driving licence
  • Basic troubleshooting experience with windows and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of server hardware and RAID technology
