The opportunity

One of our most exciting projects in the Backup Infrastructure team is the development of our next-generation multi-site, multi-petabyte Commvault architecture to further increase the speed and feature set for our backup infrastructure.

Contributing to such a critical project will give you exposure to a compelling range of different technologies. These include HPE Store Once, Cisco Nexus, and our private cloud product – eCloud, one of Europe's largest VMWare install bases.

The role will also allow you to engage and learn from a variety of stakeholders across UKFast including our Research and Development team, our storage team, and most importantly, our customers! When you’re not providing world-class support solutions to our customers or building automation at scale, you will be creating highly bespoke backup solutions for some of the most exciting businesses on the Internet – ultimately helping us to transform our single-site platform into a multi-site platform across numerous geographies.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing 3rd line support for our Commvault backups platform
  • Using Powershell, Commvault API, and workflows to improve platform automation
  • Contributing to automation troubleshooting
  • Collaborating with R&D to aid with product integration into our other internal systems
  • Assisting with capacity management and platform growth
  • Collaborating with the team to help design and architect new backups solutions for customers?
  • Collaborating with the team to monitor and respond to issues across our backup infrastructure
  • Advising clients on backups issues and providing root cause analysis where needed
  • Troubleshooting backups errors across all levels from base infrastructure to host OS/Application
  • Working to deadlines and adapting priorities according to business needs
  • Working with our Backup Infrastructure Engineers to improve the platform

 What you’ll bring

  • Excellent understanding of designing, implementing, and maintaining Commvault solutions (Preferably v11)
  • Good working knowledge of Powershell and Commvault APIs or workflows
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with providing highly available backups solutions
  • Exposure to multi-site or metrostorage topologies
  • Basic technical understanding of networking protocols and preferably experience with VXLAN based networking
  • Experience with File, Database (MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, MongoDB or PostgreSQL), Exchange & Virtual Machine Level backups
  • Familiarity with Intellisnap backup technologies
  • Experience with at least 2 of the following OS:
  • Windows (2008/2012/2016/2019)
  • Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL)
  • VMWare 6.5 +
  • Hyper-V
  • Excellent communicator who is happy to talk to different business stakeholders.
  • Ability to continually review design and implement technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with any of the following storage array technologies:
    • HPE Store Once
    • HPE 3PAR
    • Dell Compellent
    • Dell Powervault
