AWS Solution Architect

AWS Solution Architect

Over the past two decades, UKFast has grown from a start up to a multi-million pound business. We are one of the UK’s leading cloud and secure managed hosting providers - supplying dedicated servers, private and public cloud hosting solutions, and a full range of technical, cybersecurity, and DevOps consulting services.

Dedicated to innovation and providing world-class solutions, we help transform our customers’ businesses. We bring together cutting-edge technology with multi-award-winning customer service and support. We have the highest NPS in our industry and we work hard every day to re-earn our customers’ loyalty.  We support a full cross section of UK enterprise, from local businesses and charities, to global manufacturers and retailers, local and central Government, the NHS and the Ministry of Defence.

What makes the UKFast difference is simple. It’s all about our people and our culture. We are dedicated to our customers, to the ongoing training, development, and support of our team, and to making it fun every day. Our in-house training facility is widely accredited – e.g. we are the only managed service provider in the UK to also be an accredited AWS training centre.

The Opportunity

At UKFast we design and build thousands of technical solutions every year for businesses operating in industries from e-commerce through to the Public Sector, all seeking new and innovative ways of hosting their IT solutions. Our Solution Architects play a key role in devising how best to make this happen and the team work closely with both the technical and sales teams to ensure UKFast customers get everything they need.

We currently have an outstanding opportunity for an experienced AWS Solution Architect to join us as we embark on a major change programme to enhance our existing proposition, build our Public/Hybrid Cloud offer, and refocus on targeting the most attractive customer segments.

Working with AWS requirements, you will operate as the Lead Architect for new and existing customer solutions, where Amazon Web Services is the cloud platform of choice. You will be responsible for working collaboratively with customers during the professional services phase to understand the existing technical and business challenges faced. Then interpreting these into a design which addresses these challenges head on and offers the customer a solution to overcome these challenges using the suite of products and services available via UKFast and AWS.

You will have an in-depth understanding of AWS, with first-hand experience of using a broad range of the products and services available. With solid technical knowledge and a sound operational background, you will be able to readily establish the best possible mix of services required to deliver the right solution for the customer. Once a design has been established you should be able to clearly present and justify your solution to a variety of customers and colleagues, regardless of their technical knowledge.

You should be commercially minded and comfortable conversing on both a technical and non-technical level with customers, choosing the level of engagement for the audience. This must include the ability to talk confidently about the products and services available and the commercial implications. You will be working across a range of private and public sector verticals. Previous experience in regulated industries (such as government and finance) is a benefit, but it is not a requirement.

What you will bring

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional
  • 5 years of experience in a relevant role such as supporting multi-faceted technical solutions or a technical presales/architect position or working with AWS environments as a DevOps Engineer.
  • Appreciation for modern web applications, technologies, and design methodologies.
  • Ability to analyse complex systems and services using monitoring and reporting tools and extracting relevant information.
  • Present technical findings to a new or existing customer with a range of technical experience.
  • Ability to design platforms using AWS Well-Architected Framework based on the technical and non-technical requirements outlined by both new and existing customers.
  • Appreciation for licensing for all levels of infrastructure, OS, and applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of virtualisation and networking Windows and Linux is a necessity.
  • Ability to complete Well Architected Reviews with customers.
  • Familiar with the AWS approach of Assess, Mobilize, Migrate & Optimize for cloud transformation.
  • Passionate about technology and continually developing your knowledge base under your own steam.

What you will do

  • Work consultatively with customers to understand the challenges and expectations currently faced and establish technical solutions that will address these, by offering general advice and direction focusing on transformation recommendations.
  • Sell the features and benefits of UKFast products and services to prospective and existing customers.
  • Document the technical work required in the form of Statements of Works and estimate how much time is needed for either yourself or an engineer to complete the required work.
  • Operate in the client’s interest to establish designs based on the information gathered about their needs and requirements.
  • Document High-Level Designs to offer starting points for the customer.
  • Attend calls and meetings with customers to explain proposed design options.
  • Provide accurate and detailed collateral to the sales teams to allow the creation of proposal documents and tenders based on designs created.
  • Complete detailed design documentation upon purchase of products before delivery, liaising with the DevOps and support teams as and when additional information is required.
