UKFast Wins Best Workplace in North West
Article date: Fri, 03 Jun 2011 09:29 GMT
Manchester-based hosting provider, UKFast is the only SME in the North West to win a place in the UK's 50 Best Workplaces 2011, according to the Great Place to Work Institute.
As one of only seven in the IT sector to appear, the company scored particularly highly for professional development and wellbeing & work-life balance. UKFast's investment into their training facility at the foot of Snowdon played a major role in encouraging its employees to rate the company so well in these areas. All new starters at UKFast are taken to the training facility within their first three months at the company.
UKFast Managing director, Lawrence Jones says "the development and happiness of our employees is at the heart of the UKFast ethos, so it is fantastic to be recognised for this. A big thank you to all the wonderful people who make up the UKFast team - they are the real driving force behind our success."
Only two other companies from the North West made it into the 50 Best Workplaces 2011: Beaverbrooks and The Co-operative Group. Both are in the retail sector with over 1000 employees each.
The Great Place to Work Institute defines a 'great workplace' as a place where people have pride in what they do, trust the organisation they work for and enjoy working with their colleagues. The Institute's annual survey is the largest of its kind, analysing results from 1.5 million individuals.
Having appeared in the list for the last two years, UKFast sits alongside British Gas, Ernst & Young LLP, Telefonica O2 UK Limited and Microsoft.
Tom O'Byrne, Chief Executive Great Place to Work Institute UK, says: "On behalf of everyone at Great Place to Work, I congratulate all our winners for their outstanding achievement in being ranked one of the UK's Best Workplaces for 2011, as well as those who have demonstrated excellence in a particular discipline by winning one of our prestigious Special Category Awards.
This year, UKFast was placed second in the UK for providing its employees with a fun and friendly workplace. Lawrence Jones was thrilled to be recognised in this area. "We work a third of our lives, play a third and sleep a third. So at UKFast it's really important that people get the most out of their time in the office. Sometimes it's actually hard to get them to leave at the end of the day!"
Tom O'Byrne, continues; "To put our winners' achievements into context, out of the thousands of organisations around the world who take part every year in a Best Workplaces Programme, these UK organisations have been recognised as amongst the Best. Their success is a testimony to their organisation's leadership and the support of everyone who works there - indeed what employees think and feel about their workplace makes a significant contribution to the overall results."
