Hosting and colocation firm UKFast has won the first ever BBC Digital Excellence award at the North of England Excellence Awards.
The award, part of the North of England Excellence Awards, celebrates innovation and social media to sustain business growth. The cloud firm beat stiff competition from three digital agencies: KMP Digitata, Visualsoft and Enjoy Digital.
UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones said: "For us to win the inaugural BBC Digital Award ahead of three digital agencies is a real honour.
"We are incredibly committed to developing the North into the digital hub of the UK; improving connectivity with our data centres and helping businesses to grow with our home-grown solutions like eCloud®."
Ahead of the event David Teale, Managing Director of North of England Excellence, said: "The four finalists have all demonstrated outstanding examples of the use of digital and social media, and highlight the talent available in the North of England.
"It is fitting that the award should be supported by the BBC, which has been at the forefront of technological and digital innovation since its inception in 1922."
UKFast recently announced that its cloud range, launched in 2013, now equates to 18% of the firms revenue, placing them on track to hit the targeted £30m revenue and continued growth.
