The Naked Scientists bare all with UKFast

Article date: Mon, 21 Aug 2006 16:42 GMT

Lawrence Jones, supporting British PodcastingOne of the world's most popular science podcasts has joined forces with award winning ISP UKFast to secure the future of its show which gets upwards of 60,000 downloads every week. The Naked Scientists has just celebrated its 2millionth download in a year and is currently vying in the Podcast Awards for the Best Science Show. It's in such demand that the team from Cambridge University has looked outside the Joint Academic Network for hosting in order to keep the huge archive of programmes available to the public. Dr Chris Smith is the founder of the podcast. “The show's popularity meant we had to approach top level ISPs and ask for the kind of technology that huge e-commerce sites like Tesco might require, but without the immense budgets they control! “UKFast is the only hosting specialist we approached that took our needs seriously,” continues Smith. “We were lucky to get the timing just right. They have their own podcast and are in the process of building a business podcasting studio. Lawrence Jones, MD of UKFast is thrilled to be able to help. “The Naked Scientists is a fantastic example of podcasting success. They've used their expertise to offer a gift to the online community and delivered it so well that it's grown out of all proportion.” UKFast has developed dedicated podcasting servers that are so close to the hub of the Internet that download speeds, within the UK and abroad remain level even with 1.5million people logging on each week. “As a business host, it's our job to lead the way with new technologies that can further our clients' development,” explains Jones. “Podcasting is emerging as a great business platform. We'd like all our clients to emulate The Naked Scientists, safe in the knowledge that their websites will not buckle under the strain of popularity.” For more information please contact Jonathan Bowers 0870 421 1585
