Newly Expanded Awards Launch to Shine a Light on Digital Talent

Entries for the UK’s only national awards dedicated to online entrepreneurialism, the Digital Entrepreneur Awards (DEAs), are now open.
The awards, now in their 12th year, shine a spotlight on the UK's digital trailblazers – from steadfast commercial business leaders, to the technical geniuses working behind the scenes of the UK’s ever-changing digital landscape.
Previous winners of the awards span a range of sectors, from retail giants like Sainsbury’s and Mothercare to smaller, more agile digital specialists like Social Chain and Clicky Media. Steven Bartlett, founder and CEO of Manchester’s Social Chain, picked up the headline accolade of Digital Entrepreneur of the Year at last year’s ceremony.
This year’s awards are split into North and South categories following an unprecedented number of applications from the UK’s digital innovators, and huge demand for places at 2016’s ceremony. With black-tie awards evenings held in Manchester and London respectively, and a panel of high-profile judges, this year’s edition of the DEAs is set to be the biggest and best yet.
Lawrence Jones, CEO of cloud hosting and colocation firm UKFast, the main sponsor of the awards, said: "We're excited to once again be able to celebrate digital talent in the UK and to support the up-and-coming entrepreneurs who are really using technology to drive our businesses community forward.
"UKFast is proud to be the main sponsor of this event. Every year the DEAs give us the chance to see the extraordinary progress that Britain's technology sector is making and it is amazing to see."
The sixteen award categories include Digital Entrepreneur of the Year, eCommerce Business of the Year and eCommerce Developer of the Year, and aim to recognise those who play integral roles behind the scenes; the programmers and developers who make e-commerce apps and websites thrive. Entrants have until July 28th to apply.
Jon Woodall, Founder & Managing Director at Digital agency Space 48, winner of 2016’s Web Development Project of the Year award, said: “Winning the awards meant a great deal to our business. The DEAs help demonstrate to potential new customers that we not only promise a great service and results but that we actually deliver on this.
“The awards ceremony itself was a fantastic evening. It offered us an opportunity to get together as a team and to celebrate our success.
“We will certainly be entering the DEAs again this year. Recognition is very important to the motivation of the team and our guys love being part of a winning team. It also adds real endorsement which really helps our new business efforts.”
Following a short online process, entrants will have their applications considered by judges from some of the UK's leading digital and technological businesses. This year’s judges include Claire Brathwaite, Tech Advisor at Manchester Growth Company, Jonathan Wall, Deputy Controller of BBC Radio 5 Live and Jess Jeetly, Founder and CEO of JEETLY.
The dual ceremonies will be held at the iconic Principle Hotel in the heart of Manchester city centre and De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
