Leading British cybersecurity consultancy Secarma is proud to announce its support for the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and the UK government’s CyberFirst programme, by hosting CyberFirst academy students for a day long series of workshops and masterclasses on Fri 28th July.
CyberFirst aims to bring much-needed talent through to fill vacant cybersecurity roles by attracting candidates from diverse disciplines and backgrounds into the field. The NCSC requested that Secarma, owned by UKFast CEO Lawrence Jones MBE, host a visit for their academy students.
Secarma MD Paul Harris said: “We need to bring more people into cybersecurity and to do that it’s clear that we have to attract people from all walks of life, beyond the traditional idea of a cybersecurity specialist.
“It’s a great privilege to host CyberFirst students here to help them learn more about the industry. The work we are doing here is attracting a lot of attention within cybersecurity circles and it’s great to be recognised by the NCSC.”
The launch of the CyberFirst programme follows recent estimates by the ISACA, a non-profit information security advocacy group, that there will be a global shortfall of 2 million skilled cybersecurity professionals by 2020.
Harris continued: “We're getting involved with CyberFirst because it's important for all companies in cybersecurity to support the next generation of cyber-experts and because it’s valuable for the NCSC and the UK government to form good solid links with leading businesses in the sector.
“Some cybersecurity companies – because of the nature of their work – tend to be very insular, but that will never deliver the increased capacity needed for professionals to protect this country against ever-growing threats.”
Chris Ensor, Deputy Director for Cyber Skills and Growth at NCSC, said: “I am delighted with the support industry have provided to our initial CyberFirst Academy, offering guest speaker and site visits that show the real breadth of opportunities available in cybersecurity.”
