Microsoft Set to Release Silverlight in 2011
Microsoft has unveiled plans for its new Silverlight 5 web technology, dispelling misconceptions about the future of the platform.
According to the software giant, the new Silverlight will come with enhanced media playback, faster application development time, hardware acceleration and support for 3D technology.
A beta version of Silverlight 5 is set to be made arrive in the first half of 2011 with the final version set to be released later in the year.
Doubts had risen in many a minds when Microsoft had raved about how it was adopting HTML 5 technology at a conference without the slightest mention of its own Silverlight platform.
"There's been a lot of angst on this topic in the last few weeks. Let me say upfront that there is a Silverlight future, and we think it's going to be a very bright one," Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president for Microsoft's developer division, said during a Silverlight event in Redmond.
