Microsoft October Patch Tuesday Will Be Biggest Ever

Microsoft is set to release its biggest ever security update next Tuesday, with a total of 49 vulnerabilities to be fixed.

The firm has scheduled in 16 updates for October's Patch Tuesday, which will fix security issues within Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Server Software and Microsoft Office.

Four of the patches will address critical vulnerabilities, 10 carry an important rating and two have been deemed moderate.

The four critical updates will be released for all versions of Windows to protect computers from remote code execution, with versions 6, 7 and 8 of Internet Explorer currently vulnerable to critical flaws. Two important updates will also be released for Microsoft Word and Excel.

The patches are scheduled to go out on Tuesday 12 October. Microsoft will host a webcast to address customer questions on 13 October at 18:00 BST.

Microsoft's previous record for Patch Tuesday was in August with 14 bulletins released to fix 34 vulnerabilities.
