Twitter has blocked popular tweeting applications from UberMedia in what could signal an attempt to increase its messaging market share.
UberMedia produces the popular UberTwitter, Twidroyd and UberCurrent applications which rely on access to Twitter's feed.
Bill Gross, UberMedia's chief executive, said that the applications had been blacklisted for violations of Twitter's terms of service, and that the problem is being addressed.
"The changes they asked us to make were very small. As a result, we have completed the changes, and new apps are currently being posted," he said in a statement.
"Twitter has assured us that, as soon as those changes are complete, they will reactivate our applications."
Twitter also asked UberMedia to change the name of its UberTwitter platform, a process that UberMedia said it started three weeks ago. The new name for the application is UberSocial.
Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo laid out big plans for the company at this year's Mobile World Congress.
Rumours suggest that Twitter may be sold, and that Facebook and Google have been in talks on a deal valued at $8bn to $10bn (£5bn to £6.25bn).
Twitter was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.
