Facebook faces trouble in China

A series of problems connecting to Facebook in China has led to rumours of a crackdown by authorities.

Facebook's simplified Chinese site launched only last month as the US site tries to take a share of China's nascent social networking scene. It is now the default page for new users in China.

Reports that the site was down surfaced early this week, and the problems have continued since.

There are a lot of rumours that the Government is blocking it - either by intention or by accident. But there are rumours that Facebook is blocking it in order to drive people to their Chinese site, said one source in China.
