Nintendo Wii most searched for internet product in UK
Nintendo Wii was the most searched for product by UK internet shoppers during November, according to the latest figures from Hitwise.
The data shows that there have been thirteen times more online searches for the Nintendo Wii games console so far in the run up to Christmas than there have been for the Apple iPod.
Shortages of Nintendo Wii consoles in high-street stores have prompted more than twice as many searches for the terms ‘wii' as for both the terms ‘ipod' and ‘iphone'.
According to Hitwise, the volume of searches for Nintendo Wii has increased by 158% since November 2006, while searches for Wii have increased by 278% during the same period.
The publicity surrounding real and fake discount shopping vouchers helped the terms ‘vouchers' to become one of the top ten fastest growing search terms sending traffic to retail websites.
Thresher Group saw traffic to its website increase by 240% in the week ending 24 November 2007 as its 40%-off Christmas voucher spread across the internet.
Selfridges also benefited from a successful discount voucher campaign, with the email traffic it received tripling for the week ending 1 December 2007, due to its 20% off voucher.
