LinkedIn to open up its platform

Business network LinkedIn is reportedly planning to open its platform to developers over the next nine months. LinkedIn founder and chairman Reid Hoffman told Dan Farber that he wants to create a way for users who spend time on Facebook to get LinkedIn notifications. The concern for LinkedIn is that professional networkers are increasingly using Facebook, which also recently opened up to widget developers. LinkedIn, which recently raised £6.5m in funding for European expansion, has around 11m members. Meanwhile, rival business network Xing has continued its acquisition policy with the purchase of Neurona, the biggest business network in Spain with over 835,000 members. Earlier this year, Xing acquired Spain's second biggest business network eConozco. These two deals now make Xing the market leader in the Spanish speaking world. Source: E-consultancy
