Online local search company Infoserve has signed a multi-year deal with Yahoo! to sell sponsored display links on Yahoo! Local results pages.
Infoserve will become the official Yahoo! Local advertising sales partner for the UK and will sell businesses guaranteed position-sponsored display links on a fixed price/fixed term basis.
Four sponsored display listings, as well as the natural listing results, will be shown on each results page of the site.
SMEs can buy fixed positions at the top and bottom of the page, with prices starting at £99 for six months. The featured listings include a business' address, phone number, logo, and a 40-character tagline highlighting the business' message.
Steve Barnes, chief executive of Infoserve, said: "This new initiative will give SMEs the ability to advertise their own business on a major search engine.
"They will know in advance where their business will appear on the page, how long it will be featured in that position, that there will be substantial visitor traffic numbers to the site and most importantly that this will be at a fixed cost."
Jeff Revoy, vice president of search and social search at Yahoo! Europe, said: "Through our partnership with Infoserve, we are confident that Yahoo! Local will provide the perfect platform for businesses to reach customers who are actively looking for the exact product or service they provide."
This is a large contract for Infoserve. The potential impact is evident from the latest market analyst's report, which is forecasting turnover for the 12 months ending March 2007 at just under £4m, with turnover for the 12 months ending March 2008 expected to rise in excess of £10m.
