Leading search engine Google is adding blogs as a search feature in its Universal Search results - it will go alongside the images, news, books, local maps and video searches.
In an interview with eWEEK, Google's Marissa Mayer revealed that the new function would begin either this week or next (today being Friday, December 13th).
Blogs are becoming increasingly popular, largely because of the public's love of gossip and rumours, and as eWEEK puts it "is a nod to their growing number and ability to get people to go online to find content, which is what Google is all about".
Other search engines are also adapting their offerings so that web users can get back results in a variety of different content types.
An example is Ask.com, which has launched a system (Ask3D) that brings back results from blogs, videos, news, photos, and shopping sites in a three-panel screen.
The search engines all offer terrific opportunities for businesses wishing to advertise their products.
As it looks to derive more revenue from online advertising, Google has announced that it will form advertising partnerships outside of its proposed takeover of DoubleClick.
