Facebook users go market-mad with small businesses feature

Some Facebook users are experiencing decent financial success operating small businesses through the social networking site, reports The Globe & Mail. The boom comes a month after Facebook opened its system to permit third-party creation of add-on features, sometimes called widgets, that can be added to profiles. No restrictions were placed on an individual's propensity to make money, either through businesses, running ads or anything else, via user-generated applications. Facebook aggregates services offered in its Marketplace, where people can look for someone selling the service they need. The feature also enables sellers to buy premium services, like prominent search rankings or $1 banner ads, in the system. Complete operation through Facebook enables people to evolve personal connections into professional ones without ever having to leave the network. Listers can also view metrics, such as how many people have viewed a proprietary ad within the Marketplace system.
