Bmibaby's new MD to embrace social networking

Bmibaby's new managing director will be hosting a live Twitter question and answer session on the social networking site this week, when he will field questions from consumers, bloggers and journalists.

Julian Carr will take part in the session for one hour on 3 June from 3pm, taking over the bmibaby_com Twitter feed.

The Twitter account currently has 1,764 followers and is following 1,062 people, but Bmi clearly hopes the publicity in the build-up to the Q&A session will build follower numbers.

A spokeswoman for Bmibaby said that Carr aimed to answer all the questions that get posted. She said Twitter is a central part of Bmibaby's communications and customer relations function.

At the time of writing, the latest tweet from the firm is a reply to one of the airline's concerned customers. It reads: "Sorry to hear you had problems with your seat, if you DM us your booking reference we will investigate this for you."

A transcript of the Twitter Q&A session will be published online after the interview.

Carr was appointed MD on 1 April this year. He previously spent two years as commercial director of the airline. Before joining Bmibaby, he worked for, where he was involved in the airline's launch.
