Data loss can take on many forms.Businesses can see customer data fall into the wrong hands, theft of intellectual property or the exposure of confidential information at the hands of a subpoena.
All told, nearly one-third of enterprises responding to a recent survey said they experienced some form of data loss in the past year, and some analysts think the problem is even bigger than that. eSecurity Planet takes a look.
Nearly one-third of organizations with more than 1,000 employees were affected by data loss events in the past 12 months, according to a study recently released by cloud-focused security firm Proofpoint.
"Data loss and data exposure events are far from rare," said Keith Crosley, director of market development at Proofpoint. "Around a third of organizations suffered a data loss event in all of these categories."
