Tweets written by leading Egyptians are being translated courtesy of a new Twitter service for users who do not speak Arabic.
As President Mohammed Morsi was ousted by the military this week, non-Egyptians were able to read his tweets in their local languages.
Messages from opposition leader Mohammed ElBaradei were also available through Twitter's use of Microsoft Bing translator.
The tool is not yet 100% accurate but a statement from Twitter read: "As part of our experiment with tweet text translation, we've enabled translation for some of the most-followed accounts in Egypt, so people around the world can better understand and keep up with what's happening there."
The firm has made a list of all the accounts it is working on, called egypt2013.
