Thirteen arrested in pay-per-view child porn raids

Thirteen people were arrested yesterday in connection with pay-per-view child porn websites as Police swooped on a number of residential addresses in London, Wiltshire, Surrey, Kent and within the Greater Manchester area, in simultaneous dawn raids.

The raids were the first nationwide operation to be led by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) since it was launched in April.

Three people were held on suspicion of masterminding the pay-per-view websites, which show graphic images of child sex abuse, while the rest were suspected of using the service.

Jim Warnock, head of CEOP’s operational response team, said: "We are saying enough is enough and with new legislative powers coupled with specialist, dedicated investigators we can and we will root out those who hide behind complex smokescreens.

"Now we will work to track all the profits made from this illegal service as well as assess the images to make sure all the children involved are now safe from harm."
