Direct access to social media websites was temporarily restored in Iran.
Four years ago direct access was cut after protests were organised via the sites.
The block was briefly lifted for some Iranians earlier this week, only for local authorities to blame technical problems and confirm that the policy had not been altered.
The hitch occurred at a time when US trade sanctions forced the closure of an Iranian opposition leader's website.
Western journalists based in the country reported that they unexpectedly had direct access to Twitter and Facebook pages.
