Samsung Galaxy Tab Lowers Price

Samsung Galaxy Tab Lowers Price

Amazon UK is now selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab for £599.99 rather than the ridiculously high £799 it was initially pitched for.

Other online retailers have announced preorder prices for the Samsung tablet from £608 and above, which makes it more expensive than the rest of the Apple iPad range except for the 32GB Wi-Fi & 3G model.

The Galaxy Tab's online listing points to a release date of the 1st of November while another popular retailer, Expansys, says that the device will be available from the 2nd of November, which is 42 days from now and one month later than expected.

Why Samsung has been pricing the Galaxy Tab so high remains a mystery but we have argued that Samsung might cut its price at a later stage to make it more attractive and may use the high price to convince users to switch to subsidised contracts instead.

The tablet was officially presented at the IFA event in Berlin, Germany. It has a 1.2GHz processor, 512MB memory, 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card reader, Wi-Fi, 3G, a 7-inch WSVGA screen and two cameras.

It is powered by Android OS 2.2. but won't be able to access Android Marketplace.
