China busts online vice ring catering to high brow
Chinese police have broken up the largest online prostitution ring in the capital, detaining more than 150 people, the China Daily said on Wednesday.
The youngest person rounded up was a 15-year-old girl, the newspaper quoted Zhang Xiaoguang, an official of Beijing's Public Security Bureau, as saying.
Police began gathering information on online prostitution rings in December.
"After further investigation, they found that all the information had come from one gang (in south Beijing) and the posters were sent out from a nearby Internet cafe," the newspaper said.
"The clients were mostly people with good educational backgrounds who preferred to get information on online."
Prostitution was virtually wiped out in the years after the Communist Party swept into power in 1949 but, along with pornography and other perceived Western vices, it has staged a comeback in the wake of reforms over the past three decades.
