New Year Honour for Tech Campaigner

New Year Honour for Tech Campaigner

TV presenter and tech campaigner Maggie Philbin has been appointed an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

She has been honoured for her work in sparking young people’s interest in working in science, technology and engineering.

Ms Philbin co-founded the TeenTech organisation which holds events that introduce school children to technical and creative careers.

She has also had a long media career connected to science and tech.In 2008 Ms Philbin helped start the non-profit TeenTech organisation.

Its mission was to give young people a realistic view of what it is like to work in jobs that have a high science, technology, engineering and mathematics component.

The organisation regularly runs events that allow school children to talk to people that work in different technical sectors, allowing them to get a feel for the techniques, equipment and approaches used in those professions.

Ms Philbin believed that by giving children an insight into the ways that innovation and advances occur would be very important as an increasing proportion of jobs revolved around competence in science, technology and maths.
