Google has bought news stream service Wavii for around £18 million.
Established in 2012, Wavii provides customised news feed to users, focusing on tweets, blogs and news stories related to the interests of the individual user.
Wavii was created by former Microsoft and Amazon engineers to offer services via the web or as a smartphone app.
It promotes the philosophy of summarising subjects of interest to the user in a customised news feed akin to a Facebook wall.
However, close links to Facebook may be severed due to the fact that Google+ is a rival of the social networking site.
