Facebook is following Twitter's lead by adding support for hashtags so users can keep up to speed with hot topics being talked about on the social network.
Inserting a '#' will turn a work into a clickable link which leads to a feed of what others are discussing.
Hashtags, which were made popular by Twitter, are also supported by Tumblr, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram and Sina Weibo.
A Facebook statement read: "Hashtags are just the first step to help people more easily discover what others are saying about a specific topic and participate in public conversations.
"We'll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world's conversations."
