EU Broadband Speed Improve Massively

European broadband speeds have drastically improved over the last year according to a new study by the European Commission.

The EC found that 14 per cent more broadband lines run at 10mbps compared to last year.

Neelie Kroes, commissioner for the digital agenda was enthusiastic about the findings, saying: "Fast broadband is digital oxygen, essential for Europe's prosperity and well-being."

Despite the strong improvement in speeds, she remains aware that work still needs to be done on European networks, stressing that "we need to do more to reach our very fast broadband targets."

According to the BBC, the EC aims to give every European citizen access to speeds of at least 30mbps by 2020 and 100 mbps to half of the 220 million homes across the continent.

Currently Denmark and The Netherlands have the best standard of European Broadband, with 80 per cent of homes being able to access high speed connections.
