The number of requests UK authorities made about the public's use of emails, texts and other communications data increased last year.
More than 570,000 demands were made, according to the Interception of Communications Commissioner's report.
The report also showed that errors were made while using internet data and six people were wrongly accused of a crime.
"Fortunately errors with such severe consequences are rare," the report said.
