Countryside Alliance becomes top politics site

Countryside Alliance becomes top politics site

As the proposed hunting ban continues to grab headlines throughout the country, the Countryside Alliance website, home of the UK's most influential pro-hunting lobby group, is the top politics site in the UK this month according to online competitive intelligence service Hitwise.

The site, which provides the latest news updates on the issue as well as information on planned protests, has been a key part of the Countryside Alliance's campaign against a foxhunting ban.

With the issue saturating the media and discontent from pro-hunting groups brewing, the website more than tripled its traffic in the week leading up to the vote.

The site is currently the top-ranked politics website in the UK, taking just over five per cent of traffic to the online politics sector on Wednesday - a figure which had more than doubled to 11.4 per cent on the day following the recent dramatic protest and vote in Parliament on Thursday September 16.

The Countryside Alliance website ranks ahead of traditional market leader Guardian Unlimited Politics with 4.3 per cent of market share, as well as outstripping the US political websites, which have proved popular in recent weeks as the Presidential election looms.

Other websites related to the hunting issue have also experienced substantial increases in traffic in recent days: Support Fox Hunting, an independent fox hunting lobby site, has more than tripled its traffic over the past week, jumping from 224 to 70 in the Politics sector, while the RSPCA's official website has also experienced a boost in traffic, jumping 40 places in the Lifestyle sector over the past three weeks, from 200 to 160.
