China has now surpassed the population of the US with the number of internet users in the country as more Chinese access the web through mobile phones. It was just a year ago when China overtook the US as the world's biggest internet-using population. This is despite efforts by the government to block users from pornography and subversive material,
China had 338 million Internet users at the end of June, according to the country's government data released Thursday. The number users who watched online videos rose 10 percent in the past six months. More than a fourth of users now shop online.
China expects its web population to steadily grow by 18 percent per year, reaching 490 million by 2012.
