Breakthrough in Internet shopping safety
From this month, Kelkoo - Europe's leading shopping search engine - is to display ISIS accreditation within its search results next to the names of ISIS-certified shops. It’s the first time that Search and Official Merchant Certification have come together in an industry backed and Government endorsed merchant accreditation scheme.
The announcement comes at a time when e-tailers are having to fend off increasing security concerns in the busy run up to Christmas.
Featured on hundreds of e-retail sites, such as Tesco.com, B&Q and Reebok, ISIS-accredited merchants now account for approximately two thirds of all UK online shopping.
And leading payment service providers, including Visa, MasterCard and Worldpay, also support the online shopping industry’s merchant certification scheme.
Kelkoo's MD, Glen Drury, commented: "For a long time, Kelkoo has focused on building a one-stop shopping service, enabling consumers to find whatever they want online, fast. We are now giving consumers the ability to make informed choices on over 2 million products from more than 2,400 retailers."
James Roper, CEO of IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group) said: "The industry has set out to ensure that rogue behaviour by either merchants or consumers is not allowed to undermine confidence, and to bring to the notice of Trading Standards, the Police, the Government or the public, as appropriate, matters that qualify, in IMRG's opinion, for their attention. The ISIS scheme and its associated SAFE SHOPS LIST provide a keystone in the bridge of trust between shops and shoppers, raising industry standards, and enabling all reputable online merchants to compete for trade on a level playing field."
At present over 2,400 online retailers, including 41 of the top 50 UK retailers, are advertising through Kelkoo. By securing a level playing field, Kelkoo and IMRG hope to encourage more retailers to market their goods online.
IMRG's CEO, James Roper said: "We are very pleased to be working with Europe's leading shopping search engine on this vital initiative. Kelkoo can already exercise significant influence on online merchants / suppliers, but by also displaying the ISIS merchant accreditation on their site and facilitating customer feedback through the ISIS scheme, Kelkoo is providing a one-stop shopping service - everything the consumer needs to find and buy what they need online."
Roper continued: "We hope that the success of the UK scheme will enable us to extend the programme across Europe, and, as a market leader in 10 major European markets, Kelkoo is the ideal partner."
