Lovefilm and Amazon are to put 14 pilot shows to the public vote, giving viewers the chance to influence which programmes get made into full series.
Users can offer feedback on the likes of Zombieland and Alpha House, which are made by independent production companies and produced by Amazon Studios, the series and film production department of Amazon.
Six children's animation series and eight comedies aimed at adults will be put to the public vote.
Simon Morris, Lovefilm's chief marketing officer, said: "This is the first time Amazon Studios has done this."
The programmes will be shown on Amazon's pay subscription services - Lovefilm in the UK and Amazon Prime stateside.
However, Morris insisted they would be accessible for non-subscribers as well.
