Chinese search engine Baidu has started work on its own smart glasses technology which will be able to search by using facial recognition.
In a similar vein to Google's Glass initiative, the wheels are in motion but Baidu is yet to decide whether the glasses will be made commercially available.
The design comprises a slim headset with a miniature LCD screen.
Spokesman Kaiser Kuo said Baidu's facial recognition expertise was a driving force behind the plans, adding: "What you are doing with your camera, for example, taking a picture of a celebrity and then checking on our database to see if we have a facial image match, you could do the same thing with a wearable visual device."
