UK ISP NewNet Preps 24Mbps ADSL2+ Service
NewNet PLC has begun the count down to its launch of a new 24Mbps broadband service next month (August 2007). Unfortunately it will only be available in the south Portsmouth area to start with, yet costs just £11.49 per month (1GB cap):
Customers will connect directly to NewNet’s own core network; enabling faster upload and download speeds–up to 24Meg download and up to 1Meg upload. 24Meg service costs from £11.49 per month; all with the Award Winning NewNet support service provided by NewNet's own UK based helpdesk.
Stepping up a gear, NewNet will be launching a range of 24Meg and other services designed specifically for business customers who require greater speeds and more reliable services.
Peter Coates-Buglear, NewNet’s Founder and CEO says, "We are rolling out in Portsmouth first as it is on our door step. Other areas will follow. We plan to cover as much of the country as possible - 50 exchanges over the next 2 years. We are starting in areas where we have most customers. The Portsmouth 24Meg service is 18 months ahead of BT and will enable customers to connect directly to our 10Gigabit High Speed UK network."
Naturally NewNet can only do this ahead of BT's ADSL2+ service by utilising its own unbundled (LLU) network, which is quite an impressive feat for a small ISP.
The provider is also offering a number of other residential and business packages, all with bigger usage allowances and features etc. Shame it's only for Portsmouth, but no doubt that could be extended if successful.
