UK2 buys Stargate assets, offers SSL
UK Web hosting provider and domain registrar the UK-2 Group announced on Wednesday it has acquired the shared and domain assets of Web hosting provider Stargate, as a result of Stargate deciding to focus on data center and dedicated hosting services.
Former Stargate customers will now be customers of US2.net, which is the UK-2 Group's US domain and shared hosting brand. The company says that customers can expect no major changes, including the products offered. US2.net will now bill customers as well as provide round the clock support, says the company.
Additionally, the UK-2 Group Web hosting subsidiary, UK2 (uk2.net) announced it has partnered with IT security solutions provider Comodo (comodo.com) to offer new and existing dedicated server customers unlimited, free Comodo Positive SSL certificates, valued at £33 each per year. The certificates provide domain validation, 128 and 256 bit encryption and are compatible with popular Internet browsers with 99.3 percent ubiquity, says the company.
UK2 says it plans to soon provide SSL certificate offers to its Web hosting and e-commerce clients, along with discounted Extended Validation SSL certificates.
Comodo announced last week it is offering e-merchants a free quarterly payment card industry compliant scan.
