Linux-based web host A2 Hosting has released its new data backup technology called Server Rewind that automatically creates "snapshot" backups of a client's server and site every few hours.
According to A2 Hosting's Monday announcement, which came just days after it launched its new website, Server Rewind ensures customers can easily rewind back to a previous data version in the occurrence of accidental deletion, mistakes or data corruption.
"We are very excited about Server Rewind because customers can have peace of mind that their site is backed up and easily restored in case of accidental deletion or data loss," A2 Hosting chief executive officer Bryan Muthig said in a statement.
Server Rewind is integrated into popular control panel cPanel and comes free with all shared, reseller and semi-dedicated hosting accounts. It is also available for managed and dedicated hosting customers.
According to A2 Hosting, the new solution is very flexible, easily giving customers the choice to restore just a single file, a MySQL database, an entire site or even a whole server through a bare-metal recovery.
Ann Arbor, Michigan-based A2 Hosting is the latest company to increase its server backup options. In late July, another web hosting provider, Cirrus Tech (cirrustech.com) began offering dedicated server customers new remote backup plans including R1Soft's Continuous Data Protection software.
