Cardiff in £150m IT overhaul

Cardiff in £150m IT overhaul

Wants to improve citizen services and knowledge management

Cardiff County Council is looking for IT services companies to run a £150 million IT-based transformation programme.

The project, to last for up to 15 years, will involve consulting, software development, and internet and support services. The council expects the winning supplier will work with five or six others in a consortium. On 17 December, it will hold a 'bidders forum' for interested parties.

Cardiff's systems are SAP-based and it aims to cut costs, and better align its IT systems and processes with its strategy, under a "Transformational Change Programme".

The council maintains its own SAP platform, as well as its in-house customer relationship management system. Last year, Swansea Council said it would use an IT system supplied by Cardiff to underpin its new customer contact centre.

Byron Davies, chief executive at the council, said at an executive business meeting this week that overall transformation would involve cutting 500 to 750 jobs, to save £10 million.
