Amenworld adds new green servers

European web hosting provider Amenworld announced on Tuesday that a recent study of over 3,500 dedicated servers revealed that on average servers needlessly use 1000 kWh of energy, producing an excess of 632Kg of CO2 per server per year.

According to the company, the amount of energy wasted is the equivalent of "2643 jumbo jets each carrying 423 passengers flying to India and back or one person making over a million return trips to India in a year."

The results of this research has compelled Amenworld to launch of a new range of servers in the UK entitled Eco Range that use only half the power of conventional servers.

The web host estimates that these new "greener" alternatives will reduce up to 632 Kgs of CO2 emissions per server, year on year.

Amenworld says the new servers will enable webmasters to become more eco-friendly by reducing their carbon footprint and cutting electricity consumption, without compromising the quality of their service.

" is playing its part by offering customers Eco Servers, a more environmentally conscious alternative to hosting," says Olivier Djidjelli, Amen UK country manager.

"Our new Eco Range will allow webmasters to have a dedicated server at their disposal which combines both high technical performance and a significant reduction in greenhouse gasses."

Priced at £39 excluding. VAT, Eco Range's dedicated, high-performance servers are available with 80GB or 160GB of storage space, with technical specifications that can be adapted to the customer's needs.

Components are optimally located to increase cooling airflow through the servers lowering the system?s temperature and the amount of power consumed.

Amenworld's Eco Servers offer up to 3GB of RAM which helps to reduce the pressure on the low energy AMD dual core processors, further decreasing power consumption.

The Eco Range servers are priced at £39 ex. VAT's Eco Range is an affordable option for the environmentally aware webmaster.

Amen provides a range of services in Europe, including domain name registeration, email, shared hosting, private hosting, dedicated servers, and online backup. The company has more than 400,000 registered domains, 210,000 web sites hosted and 3,500 dedicated servers.
