The Planet adds new backup server
Dedicated hosting provider The Planet announced on Tuesday it has added a new advanced backup server, which marks the company's largest and most powerful backup server yet.
The backup server includes 6TB of capacity in an enterprise-ready RAID5 configuration, providing resellers and their users with strong performance, security and instant backup capacity for mission-critical environments.
The server includes R1Soft's CDPServer software, enabling end users to connect an unlimited number of server clients without the extra cost. R1Soft's continuous data protection enables The Planet customers to recover servers to their original known state by taking continuous data 'snapshots', as well as return to the last performed update to prevent any loss.
Additionally, the servers are equipped with bare-metal recovery, enabling users to bypass the file system and offer high performance during both backup and restore.
Offered on both Linux and Windows platforms, the dedicated backup server is available on the Dell 2900 "monster" server and offers up to 8TB of free bandwidth.
"Data loss is no laughing matter, as far too many companies have learned," says Urvish Vashi, director of product management at The Planet. "Surveys have found that only 20 percent of businesses are adequately covered on backup.
With content-rich sites and mission-critical environments, that represents a significant business risk. The best recommendation we can make to protect customers is to be certain they're covered on backup."
The company is currently offering the new Dell 2900 dedicated backup server at a promotional price of $999 per month, through March 31, or while supplies last.
The Planet has made multiple announcements in the last couple months, hinting towards a marketing strategy that strives to stay fresh in the minds of the Web hosting and hosting-related markets alike.
On top of a handful of recent promotions, such as discounted Dual Xeon 2.4 servers and doubled server bandwidth, the company has announced new initiatives like its Partner2Profit seminar and networking event and its new affiliate program.
