Computer storage hardware provider EMC is in preliminary talks with German software developer SAP AG to deliver Web-based computer programs, as reported by Reuters News UK.
The proposal comes at a time when EMC is making its break into cloud computing, a technology that centralizes computing and storage functions at data centers. The companies would use virtualization technology to deliver the software to customers, says Doug Merritt, president of SAP Labs North America and a member of the SAP Executive Board.
Virtualization will enable company technicians to perform maintenance from a single location, enabling them companies to save both time and money.
Merritt declined to comment on the financial details of the potential deal, or how soon the products could be available.
