Orange and HMV are launching a mobile gaming service called hmv mobile games, claimed to be the first of its kind from a mobile operator.
The service will be powered by Orange and will be available from 26 March to customers across any network, and on more than 1,000 Java enabled handsets.
Customers will be able to access the service by texting a shortcode, which will send them a weblink to an online portal.
Users then have access to reviews and previews of the latest games, be able to download demos for free, and purchase their favourite games, as seen in HMV stores and online at hmv.com.
HMV mobile games will have a library of more than 400 games, with new titles available every week, priced from £1 upwards. Orange customers will be billed directly for their mobile game-play, while customers on other networks can use a separate billing system.
HMV said the launch is the result of the evolution of the mobile market and the need for new and innovative services.
Stephen Harris, business development director at Orange UK, said: "Orange is proud to be introducing this new service in strategic partnership with HMV, which will enable both parties to deliver greater value, products and services to our customers.
It will also allow us to increase our reach in mobile gaming and build on our success as the number one mobile gaming operator in the UK."
The deal builds upon the existing Orange and HMV partnership announced last year, which introduces Orange concessions in up to 100 HMV stores.
