July saw a substantial increase in Blogger and Wordpress sites, fulling web server market gains by Google (www.google.com) of 1 percent and nginx (www.nginx.net) of half a percent respectively according to web analytics firm Netcraft (www.netcraft.com), which received responses from nearly 240 million sites.
According to Netcraft's latest web server survey, Google's service had 2.2 million more sites in use this month driven by the success of its Blogger service. Nginx also had a strong month, gaining more than 300,000 active sites at China Unicom and another 100,000 active sites due to continued growth at Wordpress.
Holding the top position since 1996, Apache (www.apache.org) continued to dominate the web server market with a 47 percent share, which just slightly increased from last month's percentage.
Microsoft (www.microsoft.com), the second most popular web server, has continued losing active sites this month, slipping 1.46 percent. Microsoft-IIS 7, however, which shipped with Windows Server 2008 and Vista, continued to grow this month, passing 3 million sites, 2 million of which are active. 2.4 million of the IIS 7 sites are located in the US.
